Tips for Traveling in Mexico

Mexico is one of the most popular travel destinations. Although Mexico is enjoyable all year, some seasons are more crowded than others. In particular, the southern coast is exceptionally crowded during the summer months between July and September. During this time of the year, hundreds of college students descend from the northern hemisphere for a bit of sun and sand. Additionally, hundreds of European tourists also find this to be popular time to visit sunny Mexico.

Silk dress

The months between December and February are notably the slowest as far as tourist travel in Mexico. The weather is a bit more disagreeable with colder temperatures. Hotel rates will, however, be a bit less expensive and more reasonable. Moreover, the hotel rates are typically cheaper during the week as opposed to on the weekend.

Long sleeved dresses

When requesting a room at a hotel ask if there are any specials. Quite often, it is possible to get a senior citizen discount or a discount with an automotive membership such as AAA. Moreover, you should always use the recommendation of a friend, relative, or coworker when deciding which hotel to book at. Not all hotels offer the same amenities or great service. If you cannot obtain a recommendation from someone that you know, search through the message boards on the Internet.

Floral dresses

Whenever booking your stay, request a full list of any fees that will be charged. Hidden fees are often the fastest way to have your hotel bill go from reasonable to unreasonable in a matter of minutes. Additionally, you should also ask for a list of the services that are included with your hotel reservation fee.

Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, has a lot to offer tourists. In addition to being one of the most interesting and colorful markets, Mexico City is also a location that has a wealth of historical sites and fascinating museums. Plus, throughout the year, a number of meaningful and enjoyable festivals take place.

In fact, many of the festivals begin at the center of heart of Mexico City, the Plaza de la Constituciуn. The Plaza de la Constituciуn is the main square and is always bustling with activity.

Denim dress

Music lovers will have a wide diversity of places to choose from to enjoy their favorite tunes. From rock and roll to Cuban songs, Mexico City has a bit of everything. Dancing is a must at most of these establishments. However, the entertainment is so lively, it almost lifts you up by its sheer energy.

There’s nothing like a bit of Mariachi, Flamenco, Jazz, Disco, or Salsa to get the blood circulation. In fact, nighttime in Mexico City opens up lots of musical engagements as well as the chance for some ballet, theater, or even opera to enjoy.

Leopard print dress

Museums are scattered seemingly everywhere throughout Mexico City with over 100 of them. Perhaps one of the best ones to visit is the Museo Nacional de Antropologia. It features one of the largest collections of artifacts from the Mesoamerican world.

In addition to the museums, one can always visit one of the museums or galleries that showcase fine artwork in the way of sculptures and paintings. Mexican paintings or sculptures are featured in many of them from a variety of artists. Both the Mexican paintings or sculpture and the Palacio de Bellas Artes offer hours of enjoyable exploration of the finer things of life.

Pencil dress

Perhaps one of the more famous religious spots to visit is the Basilica de Guadalupe. It is high on this hill that the Virgin Mary is said to have made her presence known. Other beautiful cathedrals are also scattered throughout Mexico City as well.

Thought of by many as an exclusive resort town, Cabo San Lucas is appealing, small, and close to the harbor. Odd rock formations, palapas, white sands, gorgeous sunsets, and crystal clear waters are only some of the intriguing facets to this town.

Gold dress

The malecуn or pedestrian walkway snakes along the harbor and offers the opportunity for a relaxing stroll. The path takes you right to the sport-fishing docks where you can get a glimpse of the day’s catch. The Baja waters offer approximately two-dozen different species of fish to sport fishers with striped marlin being available year round.

Exploring this area won’t take you to anything very historic; however, secluded coves over rock formations, hidden beaches, and surfing areas to explore. In fact, Chileno Bay offers some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving spots in the area.

The beaches of Cabo San Lucas are popular for many reasons. In addition to the sun and sand, the beachfronts offer outdoor dining, parasailing, kayaking, and sea craft rentals such as such as wave runners and catamarans. Mйdano Beach or Playa El Mйdano is just north of town and offers excellent sunbathing opportunities.

Sparkly dresses

Beaches at Land’s End are typically accessible by boat only, but that could add to the excitement. The most crowded beach in all of Cabo San Lucas is Lover’s Beach. Water taxis drop off and pick up beach goers throughout the day.

Line dress

Pack a picnic lunch, as this spot offers nothing but relaxation and fun. From this beach, one can always walk over to Divorce Beach or Solmar Beach. However, the rough currents make swimming way too dangerous at these spots; so only go if you plan on treading your toes in the white sands as you comb the beach for treasures.

Guadalajara, land of sunshine, ranches, and sprawling suburbs, is a great place to stay while touring Mexico. Springlike weather graces this city throughout much of the year. Humid days are rare, nights are on the cool side, and the rainy season is between the months of June and September.

Grey shoes

Daylong excursions are available to the towns of Jocotepec, Chapala, and Ajijic near Lake Chapala. One of Mexico’s famous alcoholic beverages, Tequila, can be tasted right in the town of Tequila where it is produced. Although casual attire is your best bet for comfort when sightseeing, dress more conservatively if you intend to visit any of the local churches, including the one of the Virgin of Zapopan.

Mountain bike shoes

Fashionable shopping adventures can be had at any of a number of malls including La Gran Plaza and the Plaza del Sol. An assortment of eclectic boutiques and shops line many of the streets in Guadalajara, west of the historic center.

Every Sunday, tourists and residents can shop El Baratillo. This large flea market offers an interesting assortment of goods and should be visited just for the pure fun that it offers.

Additionally, the Liberty Market or Mercado Libertad is an experience in and of itself. Only those with strong stomachs will be able to traverse the entire market with its unique offerings of herbal potions, jewelry, fruits and vegetables, pottery, baskets, electronics, and oddities such as calves’ heads and tripe.

Winter shoes

The Degollado Theater offers Sunday morning performances by string ensembles and regional dancers throughout the year. Additionally, the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra or Orquesta Filarmуnica de Jalisco performs at the theater as well on a seasonal basis.

--

Theater, dance, and musical performances can be seen throughout the year at the Cabaсas Cultural Institute. The Tolsб Chapel features chamber music recitals. For unusual performances, you can always visit the Experimental Theater of Jalisco or Teatro Experimental de Jalisco.

Celebrating Mexico and Mexican Tradition for Cinco de Mayo

But love of Mexico is more than a one-day event. Mexico, the northern most country of Latin America, has a long and varied history that its citizens can be proud of. This nation covers an area of 760,000 square miles and has a population expanding well beyond the ninety million mark. Its capital, Mexico City, is one of the world’s most crowded cities. Guadalajara, Monterrey and Netzahualcoyotl are other heavily populated Mexican cities. Many travelers choose to visit these Mexican cities as well as Tijuana, Acapulco and Vera Cruz to name a few popular destinations. Blue shoes

Of course Mexico’s history extends long before it was actually known as Mexico. Indian empires once built ancient cities and formed great and complex cultures. These early Indians of Mexico also invented a calendar, developed a counting system and used their own form of writing. The first people to have lived in Mexico are believed to have arrived there c.20,000 B.C. These people hunted such creatures as buffalo, mammoths and mastodons until the climate became considerably drier. Agriculture took the place of large-scale hunting and early farmers cultivated peppers, corn, beans and tomatoes.

Mayan civilization developed between 250 A.D. and 900. Their impact to the region was considerable and many of their pyramids can still be visited such as those at Teotihuacan. It is not precisely known why the Mayan civilization declined and fell, but it was followed by the Toltec and Aztec empires. The Toltecs worshipped a feathered-serpent god known as Quetzacoatl and notoriously practiced human sacrifice in their religion. The Aztecs founded Tenochtitlan—also known as Mexico City.

The Aztecs were the last Indian empire to rule Mexico until they fell to the invading Spanish in 1521. While the conquering Spanish were quite brutal towards their Indian subjugates, they did introduce many changes that influenced religion, government and agriculture. The Spanish also practiced mass intermarrying between the cultures which resulted in today’s Mexican people. Flats shoes

Mexico was a Spanish colony for roughly three hundred years so Spanish influence can be felt in many ways across the nation. Mexico finally won its independence from Spain in 1821. War with the United States occurred in the middle of the eighteen hundreds over Texas which was eventually won by the U.S. Modern Mexican history is full of a cast of colorful personalities—both heroic and notorious characters. Emperor Maximilian, Benito Juarez (defeated the French and went on to become president of Mexico in 1867), Porfiro Diaz, Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata are only a few of Mexico’s famous and infamous historic personages.

But the history of Mexico is about more than empires and wars—even though the country has been persistently plagued by political unrest, rebellion and war. Religion and art also form part of Mexican culture’s core. More than ninety percent of Mexicans practice Roman Catholocism which greatly influences the nation. Mexico has also produced many world renowned artists such as Diego Rivera and his wife Frida Kahlo. Historic authors include Jose Joaquin Fernandez de Lizardi, Mariano Azuela, Martin Luis Guzman, Carlos Fuentes and Octavio Paz. Hello Kitty Shoes

Today Mexico faces many challenges. Poverty is a real concern for the people of this nation. Over-population of cities causes many problems for the country. Nevertheless, many Mexicans from outlying agricultural regions still pour into the major cities in the hopes of finding work. A relatively recent obstacle for this nation was the earthquake that struck central Mexico and Mexico City in 1985 causing about 7,500 deaths and more than four billion in damages.

Still, Mexicans have much to be proud of and many reasons to celebrate their great country. From world-famous cuisine to bull-fights to soccer to music and great locales hospitable to flocks of tourists, Mexico has a wealth of cultural offerings. The land itself is reason enough to visit this remarkable nation. Each region of Mexico contains its own unique history and the land of these regions varies greatly. For example, the Plateau of Mexico contains a series of volcanoes that are still active. The upside to the volcanoes is the fertile soil they give way to making agriculture quite successful in this region. The Yucatan Peninsula is generally a hotspot for tourists who enjoy resorts dotted along the Gulf of Mexico. Much of the land of Mexico is arid so water is a hot commodity.

--

But no matter what region you visit in Mexico from the Pacific Northwest to the Chiapas Highlands, you will enjoy an unforgettable experience. If you visit during the Cinco de Mayo celebrations, you should plan on some of the most joyous celebrating you may ever see. Because while Mexicans celebrate that historic event that made Cinco de Mayo a national holiday, they also celebrate what is means to be Mexican today.

Cinco de Mayo, May fifth, is a popular Mexican national holiday that celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over the French at a battle that took place on May 5, 1862. This infamous battle took place in a little town just south of Mexico City called Puebla. Mexicans celebrate this holiday great fervor and reverence demonstrated by elaborate celebrations and terrific fiestas. Shift dresses

Attending a traditional Cinco de Mayo festival means getting together with local community, family and friends for unsurpassable cuisine, music, dancing, games and a grand display of fireworks to top off the event. Most cities and many towns and villages put on holiday parades where men march with rifles and dress in traditional soldier’s garb; some even dress as the conquered Frenchman and sport wine bottles and loaves of bread in place of rifles. Many towns go so far as to perform reenactments of the long ago battle.

Music is a mainstay at these Cinco de Mayo celebrations. From traditional strolling mariachi bands to contemporary popular music groups—a wide range of musicians provide the core entertainment for the holiday. Mariachi bands feature guitars, trumpets and violins. Many marimba players also find eager listeners on this day as well as many traditional Indian performers who play native instruments like gourd rattles, wooden flutes and seashells. Dancing is also an important feature and travelers to Mexico will witness many performances on this day. Men and women, girls and boys can be seen decked out in Mexican national costumes dancing performing traditional dance. Costumes are generally bright and material flows as the dancers complete their turns, swirls and bows. Strapless dress

One of the most popular Mexican dances is the Mexican hat dance known in Mexico as the jarabe tapatio. Women performing this dance wear the traditional china poblana which is comprised of a red and green skirt bedecked with beads, a colorful sash and a short-sleeved blouse decorated with embroidery designs. This costume is named for a Chinese princess who was sold into slavery in Mexico; she wore this costume and dedicated the remainder of her life to helping Mexico’s poor. Backless dresses

Food often rivals the music and dancing for top billing during these festivities. Eating begins at the break of day for friends and family members who gather for the holiday feasting. Mexican cuisine is so rich and diverse at any time of the year, but on this day, cooks and vendors alike go all out with their culinary offerings. Mexico’s many regions will showcase their individual dishes of note; some special courses that might be prepared around Mexico include taco of colorin (coral tree), chichilo negro (famous on the Oaxacan coast), grilled tunas (prickly pears), tacos of carnitas (browned pork), quesadillas, enchiladas, etc…

There will be hundreds of various dishes served at these fiestas—all accompanied by chiles, of course in various culinary guises. Other special fiesta dishes typically prepared for special occasions consist of menudo blanco Sonorese (white Sonoran menudo), arroz verde (green rice), tortitas de camaron seco (dried shrimp fritters), ostiones en escabeche (soused oysters), chorizo verde (green sausage), vitualla (beef, rice and fruit stew), carne Apache (Mexican-style steak), as well as hot chocolate and fruit drinks and deserts like flan a la Antigua (traditional caramel custard), budin de limon (lime sponge pudding), cocada de pina (coconut and pineapple dessert), nieve de guayaba cone crema (guava ice cream). Alcoholic beverages also run the gamut but tequila is a Mexican mainstay; tequila is made from the sap of the spiky maguey plant.

Vendors specialize in Cinco de Mayo treats called antijios. These might be anything from ice cream with fresh fruit to watermelon slices sold on a stick. Corn is also a prominent snack and celebrates relish in many different snack items between meals in this occasion. One thing is certain—few ever go hungry on Cinco de Mayo.

Best of all, Cinco de Mayo is a time when Mexicans come together to share in the pride felt for their nation. It is a holiday that celebrates all things Mexican and Cinco de Maya celebrations can be found world-wide as Mexicans abroad delight in their home-country’s heritage. Cinco de Mayo celebrations extend deep into the night with festivities and food that the whole nation enjoys together.

Goyo Morgan, the second oldest tourist in Quintana Roos. That's exactly how he introduces himself. The minute you meet this intriguing and rather flamboyant character, you're advised of this, and then asked what brings you to his colourful Palapa office. Once you meet him, I guarantee you won't soon forget him. Fish oil for dogs

Puerto Morelos is a sleepy little town located mid way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, blink and you'll miss it. Like such places all over the world, it has attracted its share of expatriates. Some are fleeing the hustle and bustle of the "modern world." Others are just looking for a quiet place to spend their sunset years as they're so quaintly called. Chief among the diverse expat community in Puerto Morelos is Goyo, fisherman, jungle guide, naturalist, entrepreneur, and all around colourful character.

Donald Gregory "Goyo" Morgan left his native Washington State in the Pacific North West twenty-five odd years ago and ended up in Mexico. He's rather coy about what caused him to leave, and drew him here. He's also a little coy about his actual age too. Although these are the only two things, he's coy about. For whatever reason he found himself in the Yucatan Peninsula, just as it was undergoing monumental changes. Fish oil dosage

The area was still fairly undeveloped then. Quintana Roos only became a full-fledged state in 1974. The infrastructure was quite primitive along the Caribbean coast, with few good roads, schools and all the other trappings of civilization. Tourism changed all this. The Mexican Government as the country’s new tourist Mecca designated Cancun. It quickly grew bringing vacationers from all over the world to enjoy its beaches and sunny clime.

Things began to spread down the coast and the sleepy little town of Playa del Carmen became the latest hot spot of the "Mayan Riviera" as resorts multiplied almost as fast as the tourists. Across the water on the island of Cozumal new resorts and hotels also began to appear drawing visitors in by plane and cruise ships in there hundreds. One of the major draws was the numerous nearby Mayan Ruins, which made this location so different from all the other sunspots on the globe.

Like many others Goyo threw himself into the new industries. Over the years he was in turn a sport fisherman, scuba diver instructor, and restaurant owner, among other various pursuits. Eventually he settled in Puerto Morelos and found perhaps what he had been searching for all his life.

Goyo developed a deep love for and understanding of the Mayan People. It is a feeling that is reciprocated at all levels. He began to search for ways to help them to profit and better from the new found prosperity without exploiting or compromising their way of life.

Puerto Morelos serves as both a home and a base for the myriad business ventures Goyo has established. First and foremost are his famous custom jungle adventures. Day eco trips into the surrounding jungle. These include a chance to swim in clear natural wells and lunch with a Mayan family.

Longer trips include the opportunity to visit a small Mayan ruin deep in the jungle without the accompanying crowds of tourists one gets at the larger better-known sites. Each trip also includes some fascinating information on the different flora and fauna of the region, including the medical properties of some plants. Mayan lore and legend are also included in the narrative.

Goyo also custom builds larger and longer trips for those who wish. Included in this are healing retreats with holistic medicines to deal with stress and the other ailments of the modern world. He has also acted as an expert guide and local resource for journalists, academics, students, and others exploring the region.

These excursions are only part of his projects. Others include a line of natural health and medicinal products for sale in local stores or via his web site. Future plans call for an expansion of this Line. Other projects include a cottage industry to reintroduction of the production of chicle, the natural ingredient in chewing gum that was once the largest industry in the region.

The purpose of all these projects is not merely to make a living, although he does support himself through his ventures. Goyo is equally concerned in seeing the Mayans improve their economic standards without giving up any of their culture and independence. Tourism has been an economic boom to the region there is no doubt of that. For the mainly Mayan population this has meant jobs. Working either in the resorts in some manner, and/or in the construction boom that has engulfed the area. Cod liver oil

Goyo hopes to help them find an alternative to this. By working with them to develop small cottage industries, many based on their traditional way of life, he hopes to help preserve those traditions rather than sacrifice them to progress. So far he has been successful on a limited basis, and this is all the encouragement he needs to continue.

Goyo Morgan's personal motto is "leap and the net will appear." It's an appropriate saying for someone with his boundless beliefs, energy, and enthusiasm. Another phrase also aptly describes him, "sometimes you just have to stop talking about it, get off the bar stool, and actually do something." The title second oldest tourist in Quintana Roos does not describe him at all. A tourist is someone who comes and looks around and then goes home again. Whatever Goyo Morgan is, it's definitely not a tourist.
